Workshops Latin Grooves for Bass and Drums by Alfredo Hechavarria

Alfredo Hechavarria from Cuba is not only a composer, bassist and guitarist, he is also a teacher with his musical experience around the world.

His book Latin Grooves for bass and drums (published by Leu Verlag) shows how to implement Latin American rhythms using simple means. The book/CD is available in three languages, English, German and Spanish.

Alfredo is supported by the drummer Mornay Hofmeester from South Africa. Alfredo Hechavarria and Mornay Hofmeester share a wonderful musical collaboration that has made them a well-rehearsed team. For the World Fusion project, the two met at concerts for Womad 2023 and Jazz on the Rocks/Cape Town 2024.

A fusion between Cuban and South African rhythms at the highest level developed. In the workshops, they not only teach techniques and rhythms, but also their passion for Latin American music. Through their authentic style, they manage to inspire the participants and deepen their musical understanding.

The joint concerts at the end of the workshops are the highlight, where the participants can show what they have learned. It is a special opportunity to be inspired by the professionals and to develop your own skills on bass and drums.

Scheduling:

Workshops/concerts in Germany and Europe are planned for April/May/June 2025.

Workshops in South Africa/Cape Town are planned from Oktober/November/Dezember 2025

and include 7 days of workshops at MHHubZa. Program from beginners to professionals, recordings in the studio possible, evening sessions with South African musicians, final concert with all participants in an event location in the middle of Cape Town.

We can also organize hotels/flights for Cape Town on request.

We have a tour guide/transport service on site to assist you with excursions.
